Crash Diets - Are They Worth It

Ice Bath Weight Loss Crash Diets - Are They Worth It.

Below are reviews from very popular quick weight loss diets that have been around for years. They are meant to be used as jumpstart to help you lose the most amount of weight in the shortest possible timeframe. They are generally not recommended for a long-term solution for an ongoing weight loss solution as it is not as nutritionally sound as other diets.

The only purpose for a diet such as these is really for a quick fix to fit into a dress or bathing suit or perhaps a special function. This is what is known as a "crash diet" and not the healthiest way to lose weight. Long-term usage of such a diet is not recommended for safe healthy weight-loss.

What these types of short-term diets deliver are low calorie and low carb choices. Generally, the more foods with a higher level of carbohydrates the lower the calories you will be allowed.

What I will describe in the diet reviews below are what foods you will be allowed to consume to keep a positive spin on the advantages to completing such a regimen for quick weight loss. For faster results, these particular diets will restrict most carbohydrates as this will allow your body to release water weight more quickly which will lead to a rapid weight loss.

The Mayo Clinic Diet

A very popular crash diet that is also known as the grapefruit diet because before each meal you consume, you eat a half of a grapefruit.

The diet itself revolves around a lot of meat, vegetables and fruit (in grapefruit form only) and apparently, your portion sizes are not very limited. The only stipulation is that in order for this diet to be effective, you must not eat carbohydrates in the form of bread, pasta, crackers and such, or dairy of any kind. The enzymes and other ingredients in the grapefruit create appetite suppression so you are able to eat less without feeling deprived.

Cleveland Clinic Diet

The Cleveland Clinic Diet is by far the most restricted calorie diet I've come across but it also is the most abundant of food choices you can consume. This crash diet allows you to eat bread, cheese, peanut butter even ice cream but the catch is, you must eat them in very small quantities which may not be to your satisfaction. If eating smaller portion sizes were all it took to lose weight, wouldn't everyone be losing weight this way?

The only problem I have with this particular diet is that the carbohydrates you consume will affect your blood sugar and insulin levels making it very difficult to maintain the urges to eat more and often. This is why people are eating the things and not losing weight. It's a no-win situation and quite a roller coaster ride of ups and downs. Perhaps some types of personalities with a will-power to sustain it will likely lose weight initially but long-term, this diet will fail you.

Tuna and Water Diet

This particular diet is the most extreme by far of the three here that I am reviewing and the most ridiculous as well. During a three day period, you will consume all the water-packed tuna you desire while drinking as much water as humanly possible. Will you lose weight fast? Yes. Will you be able to keep it off? Very unlikely. If your only goal is to get into an outfit for a special occasion, then this would probably work but this "diet" is definitely not something you could sustain long-term for any length of time.
