How to Lose Weight For Life

Ice Bath Weight Loss How to Lose Weight For Life.

Fad diets, 2-minute a day exercise plans and magic pills! I have tried all of these methods of losing weight and you probably have too. I reached my lowest point using Xenical to absorb the fat from my digestive track before it found its way to my stomach or backside. I found myself at work constantly going to the bathroom checking to see whether I had an accident. And lets not talk about the orange rings around the toilet bowl. I found a way to lose weight and you can too.

The key is not what diet you pick or which pill you take. We'll talk about those things in a minute. They key is simply how you think. Diets are short-term. No one can keep up intensive exercise programs forever. In today's society, it just isn't possible. The trick is to make three changes that are not as hard as you think.

First, change the way you think. Stop thinking about trying to lose weight just to look good for the beach in the summer. Or trying to look good for a class reunion. Those things are all understandable but they are also unrealistic. Usually by the time you start worrying about this, there really isn't any way to make it to your goal without jeopardizing your health. Setting yourself up for failure is certainly not any way to improve your self esteem. Start thinking about losing weight as a permanent change. It almost always takes time for the initial weight to start dropping off. So give yourself a chance to get there. Here are some tips to change the way you think.

  • Stop weighing yourself daily...in fact, stop weighing yourself at all if the thought of looking at the scale makes you sick to your stomach.
  • Stop worrying about what other people think. I just went on a cruise where I was worried about wearing my bathing suit in front of all the beautiful people. I found that there were plenty of people who made me look gorgeous. After realizing this it became easier to not care, relax and enjoy myself.
  • Stop thinking about food. Find some other distraction. Food tends to be an obsession so find another one and throw yourself into it wholeheartedly. Don't just do it but join clubs and groups related to your new hobby. Make it a part of your life and obsess on that instead.
  • Be realistic about your targets. Trying to look like David or Victoria Beckham is not really a practical target. Be happy with you and when you get to where you get to a healthy and comfortable weight try and have the presence of mind to recognize it.

Second, change the way you eat. Of course, take the obvious steps but not as part of a diet, but as part of your everyday life. These changes will be permanent. Since you want to lose weight and not find it again, you need to make changes that will keep you from having to try those diets and pills again. Try the following tips:

  • Stop drinking sodas. Yes even the diet sodas. The regular sodas are obvious. Carbohydrates from sugar coming out of your ears (or stomach or backside). For the diet sodas, there are so many debates on this topic I'm not even going to argue it but I believe that these don't help either.
  • Don't eat junk. Stop the candy bars, the ice cream by the bucket or whatever other vice you have. No, I'm not talking about forever or even for an extended period of time but make it a special reward. Allow yourself your favorite deserts on special occasions. It makes the pleasure all the more intense when you do have that piece of key lime pie.
  • Eat less per meal than you usually do. Less fat, less carbohydrates without going overboard. Don't starve yourself (unless you are dieting to kickstart the process) but keep up with your new eating habits after your diet is done. While you start losing weight, slowly reduce the portions you eat. You will know when you get to the point where you should stop reducing your meal portions.
  • Finally, eat more meals a day. Eating five or six times a day and reduce your meal portions even more. This keeps your metabolism from getting too low and actually enables you to burn more energy throughout the day.

Third, you have to move. You must increase your energy level. I'm not really even talking exercise programs although it's a pretty good idea. The more energy you use on a daily basis the more you body tries to adjust your metabolism to meet the demands you place on it. In other words, the more energy you use, the more energy you will have. I don't care if you are a couch potato but you need to be an active one. Try these tips and then keep adding more activity into each day:

  • Park at the back of parking lots instead of the front. The extra minute it takes you to walk to the building won't put a crimp in your schedule but will give you a quick stimulus for your metabolism.
  • Don't sit while you have phone conversations. Pace. That's right. Yes, it makes you look nervous but if you remember from the earlier section of this article, we no longer care what people think of us. Right?
  • Plan days with your family that involve walking. Go to the local fisherman's wharf. Or visit the outlet mall or go to a local park and have a picnic. Build activities into your life that require you to move.
  • Stop using your car to drive short distances. Don't drive to the convenience store on the corner if its only a block away. Walk there.
  • By now, you are seeing a pattern. Make the little choices in life that cause you to expend just a little more energy and stop looking for ways to avoid moving. You must move to expend energy to increase your metabolism to keep the weight off after you lose it.

Now that you have made the changes you need to keep the weight off and not have to repeat the process over again, then pick a diet and go for it. But remember that you need to already have changed the way you think, eat and move to lose the weight and keep it from catching you again.
